The Clearfield County Charitable Foundation notes the passing of Marilyn Kurtz. Robert and Marilyn Kurtz are founding supporters of the Charitable Foundation with Robert Kurtz originating the idea of establishing a charitable foundation to benefit Clearfield in the 1990’s. Mr. Kurtz followed through on his dream and pulled together several community leaders to create the Clearfield County Charitable Foundation in 2004. Robert and Marilyn Kurtz established several endowment funds with the Charitable Foundation and made many donations in support of these funds. Marilyn Mears Kurtz, most recently of Foxdale Village in State College, formerly of Clearfield, died on Friday, January 3, 2025 at Foxdale Village.
She was born on March 28, 1940 in Akron, Ohio.
Mrs. Kurtz married Robert M. Kurtz, Jr. on July 20, 1991 in Boston, MA in the Old North Church of Paul Revere fame.
She was the daughter of the late Charles and Alice Mears. They lived in Hudson, Ohio and later moved outside of Harrisburg, PA.
She is survived by her husband, Robert M. Kurtz Jr. of State College, formerly of Clearfield; a son-in-law, Marty Bollinger of State College, and his two children Samuel Swails Bollinger of the University of Stanford in California and Sophie Alyse Bollinger currently of State College. She has several step-children, including Michael Kurtz, David Kurtz and his wife Adrienne all of California and several step grandchildren, Robby Kurtz, Karis and Collin Marsh, Garrett, Wyatt and Helena Kurtz, and Max Bollinger-Boal; as well as a step niece and nephew in State College. She is also survived by her sister, Amy Clarke and husband Michael Clarke, currently of Ashville, NC.
In addition to her parents, Marilyn was preceded in death by her daughter, Wendy Swails Bollinger
A service to honor Marilyn’s life will be held at a later date. Interment will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Clearfield.
